SharePoint 2010 Site Owners are Best Supported with Short Video Training Classes that Present Required Procedures without Abstraction

Rehmani Consulting, Inc. sells a set of 105 short video training courses on SharePoint 2010. Our SharePoint 2010 End User Training Course is the ideal set of training content on industry best practices for SharePoint 2010, and, as such, ought to be provisioned to site owners in order to support successful performance of required procedures.

SharePoint site owners are required to successfully perform a range of computing procedures within a SharePoint 2010 work space. This set of procedures should be designed to support successful attainment of objectives included and detailed in a governance plan for SharePoint for a specific organization. The unique character of site owners — that they have little meaningful commitment to SharePoint, but substantial responsibility for performing procedures, as directed, within the SharePoint workspace — leads us to recommend on site training courses, which ought to be lead by individuals well known within an organization, who, therefore, have the specific familiarity with individuals that needs to be in place to ensure a high level of average retention of training content on the part of users. Our consulting services, which are available on an hourly rate basis, provide an optimum method of coaching staff members designated to lead training to successfully meet their responsibilities.

With regard to optimum training content for these site owners, we are completely confident that a combination of specific training content designed to uniquely support a governance plan for SharePoint for a specific organization, together with a set of industry best practices in video training course format, constitutes a rich set of content for these users. Where possible, it makes sense to present these users with the type of training content that can be quickly assimilated. Generally speaking, meeting this requirement amounts to providing them with short video courses (ours range from as short as 30secs and as long as 2 minutes in length). We think it makes sense for custom training content — whether in video format, document format, slides, or images — to be crafted in a manner that quickly delivers required steps to these users. In our experience, users will make use of these training resources on the job, directly within the SharePoint 2010 work space, and, specifically, as needed.

The ideal method of delivering this content to these site owners is directly in-context and in a manner that limits content choices to only those training reference materials that are specific to tasks. Our VisualSP help system is the best method available today to deliver content to these users in a manner that promises high levels of user retention of training materials.

We welcome inquiries about our training content, help system and consulting offers. You can either telephone us at +1 630-786-7026 or contact us via email, we will be happy to speak with you about the specifics for your organization.

A Sensible Method of Provisioning Training Specific to a SharePoint 2010 Governance Plan is a Hybrid Approach

Rehmani Consulting, Inc offers a hybrid set of training content for SharePoint 2010 administrators, site owners and developers. The content components of our hybrid set can be found on the Corporate Training section of our web site. Our hybrid set of training content is an ideal solution for an organization looking to implement SharePoint 2010 along the lines of a detailed governance plan.

In the last post to this blog we presented the notion that a meaningful implementation plan for SharePoint 2010 can be based upon a specific governance plan. The governance plan, which ought to be in document format, will include specific information that will, in turn, provide the basis for procedures that users will need to successfully perform if SharePoint is to deliver on expectation. Of course, training is a natural complement to this process.

We think it makes sense to anticipate that a hybrid training plan, complete with a method of training administrators, developers and site owners and users will need to be developed to accompany this governance plan. Further, specific training content will have to be provisioned to each group. Finally, an appropriate method of delivering the content — one that promises to be truly useful — should be specified, and included, as well.

We think it makes sense to train SharePoint 2010 administrators broadly, across the widest possible range of procedures. Our rationale for this position is that administrators will serve as a primary technical resource for developers, site owners, and end users. Therefore, they will need to maintain enough knowledge, broadly speaking, to provide these SharePoint users with the support they require. Rehmani Consulting, Inc. offers SharePoint Virtual Consulting Services, which are ideal for SharePoint Administrator training. In fact, the best approach for this type of training is to provide coaching resources for these administrators, which is precisely the type of training that we offer with our service.

With regard to the training content that ought to be in place to support SharePoint administrators as they implement procedures included in a governance plan, we think the content must include custom documents, images, slides, and even videos that speak to specifics on an organization by organization basis. These custom training resources should be provisioned directly to SharePoint administrators. Nevertheless, additional training content — on specific required industry best practices and other common procedures — can be provisioned directly to these users through another approach.

In our opinion, the best method of provisioning training content on industry best practices and other common procedures is via one of our “people” subscription offers. Please contact us to learn more about these subscriptions to our web site. You can either telephone us at +1 630-786-7026 or contact us via email, we will be happy to learn more about your specific objectives, relative to SharePoint, for your organization.

SharePoint 2010 Planning, Implementation and Administration for an Optimum End User Experience is a Preferred Approach

Rehmani Consulting, Inc offers several products specifically designed to provide end users with the information they require to successfully perform daily office automation tasks within a computing environment that includes SharePoint. These products are listed on our SharePoint Users Training page of our SharePoint-Videos dot com website. In addition, we have recently debuted a new product, VisualSP. This product is a native SharePoint 2010 application that modifies the user interface for SharePoint to provide end users with direct, context specific access to video training content within SharePoint 2010. We think VisualSP is an important step forward, one that brings help that much closer to end users where they truly need it, meaning specifically within their daily office automation environment.

Our attention to end user needs for technical training for SharePoint appears should make sense to any group of decision makers grappling with how best to plan, implement and then administer SharePoint 2010 for groups of users. As recently as late August, 2012, we were pleased to read a blog post authored by Rich Blank of NewsGator on the CMSWire Blog Site, Got SharePoint? Start with the End User in Mind. This article, with its point that “the challenge is getting more out of the investment made in SharePoint and focusing on what your users need to get their jobs done. That means translating all those feature-rich capabilities of a platform like SharePoint into something of value an end user or executive can understand.” (quoted from the CMSWire article for which a link has been provided in this post) is entirely consistent with our focus on creating video training content for end users.

In fact, we don’t think that IT organizations can spend too much time planning for a likely end user experience with SharePoint 2010 if they are to ensure a successful implementation of this software. Simply “putting up” SharePoint no longer makes sense. Further, adopting this type of informal and open ended plan is a sure prescription for problems that will likely arise soon after end users are informed of the availability of SharePoint. Without a governance plan, this type of open ended introduction of SharePoint is, at best, a very poor candidate to make any sort of meaningful contribution to value for an organization and, at worst, a prescription for problems.

If you cannot afford a problematic implementation for SharePoint 2010, or need to remedy an existing implementation that is beset with problems and low levels of end user satisfaction, repairing these problems ought to be a top priority.. You can look to Rehmani Consulting, Inc. for services that can benefit your efforts. We offer the training content you require, on SharePoint-Videos dot com, and through our dedicated products, to ensure that your plans are successfully executed. Please contact us. Either telephone us at +1 630-786-7026 or contact us via email with any questions you may have about our services. We will be happy to discuss your needs and welcome an opportunity to do so.

Training End Users to Use SharePoint 2010 Regularly and Successfully Should be an Imperative for IT Organizations

Training end users to use SharePoint 2010 regularly, and successfully, should be an imperative for IT organizations. Rehmani Consulting, Inc. offers a comprehensive set of video training, which is specifically targeted to support a wide range of end users. For example, our SharePoint 2010 Training Courses cover the full range of daily computer operations that most end users working with SharePoint 2010 will, likely, have to face. Therefore, these sets represent an excellent opportunity for the right organizations within an enterprise to implement a solution that will deliver consistently positive results, and cost savings with regard to SharePoint 2010 support.

The most recent study on SharePoint implementation across enterprise businesses and other large organizations in the public sector, published by the Association for Information and Image Management, International (AIIM), “The SharePoint Puzzle – Adding the Missing Pieces”, indicates that the majority of SharePoint implementations are initiated by IT, rather than by business line units. Further, the burden of support and development for SharePoint falls back onto IT. Therefore, we think that IT should ensure that end users are thoroughly and successfully trained to use SharePoint 2010. Should their efforts succeed, then SharePoint 2010 can be established, truly, as a mission-critical application for an enterprise. This success will more than justify IT’s decision to implement SharePoint 2010. The alternative outcome, a failure, should be an unacceptable outcome given the role IT usually takes with regards to these implementations and avoided at any cost.

Our product VisualSP represent a substantial step forward with regards to improving the usability of training content for SharePoint 2010 end users. As we have noted in earlier posts to this blog, we listened carefully to the opinions of notable information architects with regards to how best provision training content for end users. As well, we implemented modern technical training theory to position content entirely within the context of a SharePoint 2010 work environment and, thereby, encourage self management on the part of these end users who, we feel, will likely do a better job of problem solving prior to reaching out to IT for support. Finally, the training content is entirely comprised of recorded computer procedures with human voice over from a SharePoint subject matter expert (SME) which, once again, conforms to modern technical training best practices that call for an emphasis on content that encourages behavioral modeling on the part of the student.

The combination of our complex and all encompassing training content for SharePoint 2010 with our VisualSP delivery method represents a solution for hastening end user adoption that, we believe, should be on the short list of every IT organization responsible for SharePoint operation. If, in fact, an IT organization is truly committed to equipping end users with a training system that will lead to pervasive adoption of the SharePoint computer processing environment, then there is no reason not to consider our offer.

If your IT organization understands the importance of end user training, as well as the role that training must play within an overall program that promises to deliver pervasive adoption of SharePoint, then we welcome an opportunity to discuss our products with them. Please contact us by telephone at +1 (630) 786-7026. Alternatively, you can contact us by email with any questions you may have about individual as well as organizational-level SharePoint training.

Training SharePoint End Users Is a Sensible Investment

A substantial portion of the technical support burden for SharePoint can be alleviated by training end users who usually utilize SharePoint simply to perform computer operations mandated by management. This type of superficial utilization of SharePoint is best supported through the acquisition of video instructional tutorials that cover any/all required procedures. The best approach for this type of instructional tutorial is to limit content to no more than recordings of computer procedures (typically so called screen shots that demonstrate mouse movement, selection of hot links, etc) with an audio track comprised of human instruction. Finally, including transcripts of spoken instruction in on-screen text boxes will be of further help to this class of SharePoint users.

We provide customers with the content they need for training SharePoint end users in a set of 105 tutorial videos that adhere precisely to the editorial guidelines we just described in the paragraph above. None of the tutorials in our collection exceeds an approximate length of 2mins. The technical content is limited strictly to the steps required to successfully execute procedures. Cursor movement is highlighted to facilitate ready comprehension by end users. The audio track is comprised of verbal instructions spoken by subject matter experts who have been publicly recognized for their technical expertise. In all, a perfect combination to satisfy end users while support overhead is kept to a bare minimum.

The acquisition costs for our complete set of 105 end user tutorials, for a group of 10K SharePoint users, amounts to an approximate one time cost per user of $1.50. Compared to the cost of supporting this size community the acquisition cost for our content is a substantial bargain. The likelihood that provisioning our end user tutorials will successfully alleviate support demands is high when you factor in two important features of our video tutorial collection:

  • We provision the collection to customers on a DVD for installation on corporate intranets. We recommend that the content be added to a SharePoint sub site. For customers who follow our recommendation, the training is, effectively, available on demand. Instructions can be repeated as frequently as required and whenever required, making for a high likelihood of user absorption of our instructional content
  • In addition, with our content added to a sub site, training material is truly available within the workspace context, which constitutes a substantial advantage that furthers the likelihood that instructional efforts will be successful

We would be happy to elaborate on the training recommendation that we have just made for SharePoint end users. Please either call us at (630) 786-7026, or Contact Us. We will be happy to discuss this topic at greater length.
